Session 6 Notes
Pre-Game Setup
The Dungeon Master (Clay) explains that the session notes were delayed because his previous AI transcription service skyrocketed in price, so he built a local language model and a dedicated wiki site for the campaign.
David (Joe) uses his Artificer tools to craft a mundane magical item for Taspar: a “Cloak of Billowing” that dramatically flaps on command.
The DM reminds the players that the King's daughter, Jennifer, is missing and that the bodies they dumped down the garbage chute in Session 4 were discovered.
Morning Investigation
The day begins with David trying to wire into the ship's light switches to hack a PA system and page Jennifer. He rolls poorly and shocks himself for 3 electrical damage.
The party heads to the lower decks to investigate the specific cargo lots they noticed on the forged manifest, starting with the mysterious “PE Seeds” (Lot 504).
They search Cargo Bay 5, but after a thorough investigation, they realize the crate isn't there. A special “R51” designation on the manifest indicates the cargo requires special handling and is likely stored in a highly secure vault.
Cracking the Vault
The group locates three heavy iron vault doors at the rear of the ship. Meili/Yerthesin (Keely) uses a spell to disguise themselves as a gray-cloaked ship security guard.
David taps into a fire ether pipe in the wall to create a makeshift “acetylene torch” and begins cutting the hinges off one of the smaller vault doors.
While David cuts, a three-man guard patrol approaches. Craig (Sam) casts Disguise Self to look like an Aetherborn worker, and Meili successfully uses their “Silver Tongue” bard ability to deceive the guards into believing they are an authorized maintenance crew fixing a broken door. The guards leave them alone.
With a final push from Taspar, they rip the door open and are immediately hit with the smell of death.
The Crime Scene
Inside the vault, they find four dead bodies surrounded by ransacked (but not stolen) chests of gold belonging to the King.
David investigates the blood spatter and deduces that nothing of monetary value was taken; the victims were brutally killed to send a message, and at least one person was dragged away alive.
The party realizes they accidentally cracked the wrong vault—this is the vault containing the King's assets and the “Arcane Artifact” red herring they forged in the previous session.
Combat with the Gangsters
Two men—a dwarf and a short goblin—rush down the hall to check on the vault. They are not guards, but gang members working for a local crime boss named “Mr. V”.
Meili tries to bluff them, but fails. The goblin immediately dashes down the hall to scream for reinforcements.
The Fight:
Meili casts the Command spell on the dwarf, forcing him to grovel on the ground.
David leaps onto the prone dwarf, grappling him and placing him in manacles.
Taspar goes into a Barbarian rage, sprinting down the hallway after the goblin. Despite taking a hit to the knee with a lead pipe, Taspar runs the goblin through the chest with his cane sword, killing him in front of a crowd of civilian passengers.
The Interrogation & Cliffhanger
David interrogates the captive dwarf, pulling out one of his teeth with pliers. The dwarf reveals his crew was contracted to send a message to the men who crossed “Benny Demmoris”. David traps the dwarf in the vault, sticking a needle near his femoral artery so he will bleed out if he moves.
Meanwhile, Taspar is confronted in the hallway by a massive, scarred Goliath in a fine suit, accompanied by a crossbow-wielding Kenku.
As the Goliath walks toward the vault, he rolls a natural 20 on his perception check. He spots Meili holding the cane sword they looted from Vane (the assassin killed in Session 3). Recognizing his dead associate's weapon, the Goliath realizes the party is responsible for Vane's death.
(Note: Sam/Craig disconnected from the call due to technical difficulties during this final encounter.)
The session ends on a cliffhanger right before a major fight breaks out, with the DM telling the players to level their characters up to level 5 for the next game.
