The Kingdom of Tirwyn, and the modern calendar, was established with the coronation of King Vaerethil Tirwyn in year 0, 640 years ago. The Tirwyn family has maintained an unbroken line of pure-blooded high elves on the throne for the past 5 generations.
The current monarch, King Delfin Tirwyn I, succeeded his father following the death of the Queen Consort early in the year 640.
Once a formal monarchy, the Kingdom of Tirwyn is nearing the hundred-year anniversary of the establishment of its parliament, which rules alongside the royal family as functional legislative body. In the year 600, the parliament passed House resolution #24 which released a number of state secrets related to the origins of ARIA corp. and aether technology.
The nature of high elves lives being so long has led the Kingdom to adopt an uncommon practice for determining succession. A male heir is not eligible to claim the throne until he has produced a pure-blooded male heir himself. When they do take the throne, it is left to the wisdom of their Consort to determine the length of their rule. Should the King’s Consort die while on the throne, or should they decide it is time for the throne to be passed to the next male heir, then the current King is obligated to cede the throne without question. The system has enabled a series of peaceful transitions from heir to heir for the last 640 years. Some reigns have lasted for hundreds of years, others less than 50.
